Winter Breaks

Winter Wildlife

CowsWinter.JPG

Winter is the best time for eagles, buzzards and peregrine falcons as they can be seen hunting along the hill ridges. Our seals, eider duck and many other winter residents stay in the safety of Canna Harbour to find shelter and food. Moving quietly you can spot otters coming ashore along the Tarbert road.

Our peaceful Isle of Canna is also superb for walking - follow our suggested itinerary to discover its history and archaeology - easier to see now when the bracken has died back. Includes opportunities to volunteer with our community projects.

Dark Sky Sanctuary

Canna will soon have recognition status as the first Island Dark Sky Sanctuary. With no light pollution you can see the stars and planets emerge to form constellations and then the whole Milky Way stretching across the sky while you track satellites and catch a last glimpse of a shooting star. Use our Visit Scotland star charts and apps like Sky View to name the stars and find your way around the sky.
